Taking over the webternet, playing electronic drums, Jiu Jitsu, and wearing a catheter. This week we meet the lead marketplace site manager, Lance Snider.
What is it like working for Envato, and what are some of the jobs you’ve had with us?
It’s wonderful! I actually started out as an author, dxc381. Then, almost three years ago I was hired by Cyan to be the part time FlashDen site manager. Now I’m the lead site manager working with all the Envato marketplaces. I’m well on my way to taking over the webternet!
What projects are you working on at the moment?
This month we, the marketplace team, have decided that 3dOcean needs some extra love. Though we’re still working on all the sites, the majority of our attention will be focused on the 3d authors and buyers.
Tasks will include everything from marketing, to SEO, to discovering new categories and authors. I’ll personally be looking into how we can best serve the indie game developer community. This’ll give 3dOcean a much needed boost.
Describe your workspace.
I love my workspace. My favorite part just might be the Roland TD9 drums located just behind my chair. Whenever I feel like my head is going to explode, I just sit down and play for a bit to clear my mind. I have a PC with 2 dell monitors, plus an older MacBook Pro that I bought to allow me to compile things for the iPhone.
I used to get so engrossed in my work that I wouldn’t get up to drink, so I recently got a three gallon water dispenser, allowing me to hydrate without leaving my desk. Now all I need is a catheter.
What does your average day look like?
The best part about working for Envato is that there is no “average day.” Every day is completely different than the last. We, as a team, go out and find something that needs attention and go after it. As soon as that’s done, we move on to the next thing. Even the recurring tasks are different each time because there are so many variables, especially where authors are involved.
What do you do when you’re not working?
I love MMA and Jiu Jitsu. When I’m not injured (like I am now), I train constantly. I’ve even been able to compete a couple times.
I also love to play the drums, travel, kayak, and paint. It doesn’t matter how much I have going on, I always have some sort of side project, whether it be a game, site, or a file to sell on ActiveDen. Right now I’m working with a couple friends to create a four player iPad game in Unity.
