Congratulations to our second Power Elite author! Peerapong has been a member of the Envato community for 2 years and in that time has amassed 2,754 followers! He surpassed $1,000,000+ worth of sales in the last month and has worked exceedingly hard to get there! Peerapong’s story is inspirational and we are so proud to have him as a leader in our community.
As a Power Elite author Peerapong receives a day in his honor and a special Power Elite care pack including the Power Elite ring. We’ve interviewed Pete (as he likes to be called away from the Marketplaces) for Peerapong Day and we hope you enjoy reading about his incredible journey to this milestone.
Happy Peerapong Day Everyone!
Interview with Power Elite Author Peerapong:
When we found out Peerapong was close to the $1,000,000+ milestone we asked him to answer some important questions for us. In his interview, Pete (as he prefers to be known) tells us about not giving up, being an Envato author in Thailand and what this milestone means to him as an author and designer. If you fancy yourself a future Power Elite author, read closely and see if you can pick up some tips!
Congratulations Pete, how does it feel to have sold over $1,000,000 of items?
It’s unbelievable. I never thought I could sell themes worth a million dollars in this short period of time (I am 28 years old). Back in 2008, I was still unemployed and had failed with so many web products. I still remember, before I knew about ThemeForest, I was ready to give up on the internet and web technology because I had tried so hard to come up with many web projects and they had all failed. So I started thinking
Is this the right thing for me to do for the rest of my life?.
But when I found ThemeForest unintentionally (I saw ThemeForest ads on Twitter app), I started learning more about the Envato Marketplaces and how they work. Then I decided to give it a try and it turned out to be one of the best decisions in my life.
What does this milestone mean for you as an author and designer?
Honestly, it reminds me how far everybody can go if they never give up. But it doesn’t make me feel that I am a better author than others at all. Everything changes so fast in this industry and I still need to learn and improve myself all the time.
Btw, the power elite ring is so cool. I love it! 😀
How many hours do you spend on designs for the Envato marketplace?
I work around 8-16 hours a day on support and theme design. Sometimes I work every day (even on the weekend) LOL! I think the reason I spend long hours working on my job is that I never feel like I am working at all. I could spend hours finishing the latest part of a theme on the weekend instead of going out for movie or a trip. It sounds weird but it’s really true 😀
Have you had any designs rejected and what did you do about it?
Of course 😀 My first photography theme was rejected 4-5 times. At the time, I was angry first. Once I calmed down I started digging deeper and listening to the rejection reasons the reviewer gave. I tried harder to find the weak spots in my design. After that first failed theme, I improved but still got rejected 2-3 times before getting many of my themes approved. I realized that the reviewer’s suggestions are valuable information to help you to improve your product. Many of the reviewer’s suggestions have improved my themes 🙂
What words of encouragement do you have to any budding authors who want to make Power Elite level?
Anything is possible if you try harder and have the right attitude. Take me as an example. I come from small country (I lived in Bangkok, Thailand) and English is not my fluent language. Before I joined ThemeForest, I was unemployed and ready to quit making web products.
I was told by so many people that I was wrong when I decided to quit my part time job to work full time on the ThemeForest Marketplace. I got many rejections before my first theme was even approved. I was not a talented designer and coder but I have improved and now work even harder to improve my skills. So please, never give up even in the darkest day of your life. 🙂
What is your office space like?
It’s a bit untidy. I have 1 Macbook Pro with Cinema display. Sometimes after spending hours working, my desk is full of papers :D. I also sometimes go out and work from cafe (Starbucks) when I need to refresh my eyes and ideas. It always helps 🙂
How do you get inspiration for your designs?
Like many other authors. I love CSS gallery sites and other design blog posts. For example; “Best 50 websites blah blah…”. I love interior design too, so I spend some time each day on many interior and home design sites.
What is the best thing about your job?
You can really work on your vision, ideas and see how people respond to your work in a really competitive market. I used to be software engineer who worked on projects in which customers and my boss told me what to do, even when I knew it was not the right approach or there was better way. The ThemeForest marketplace is so competitive that you really have to improve and learn new things all the time and that makes my job more exciting!
If you could choose any space in the world and create a design for it, where would it be and what would you make?
Currently I am in process of building my first home. I work with a very talented interior designer and it’s a great result. I’ve always wanted to create a beautiful design resort in the mountains of Thailand. I hope someday in the future, I will build a great resort or houses in Khao Khor, Khao Yai or Pai (and other places) in Thailand 🙂
How do you keep motivated and inspired?
I read stories about many talented people in the world. Many of them are successful at very young age and it has inspired me. When I’ve had a bad day, I remind myself about these people’s stories. Most of them failed many times but they didn’t give up and that is the reason they succeeded. It teaches me to try even harder and get back to the right attitude.
Also, I think the way the Envato Marketplaces work motivate me too. For example, the paw badge, monthly ranking, breaking monthly record blog post etc. Everyone wants to break the record right? LOL 😀
What is the hardest part about your job?
I think motivation is also the hardest part. For example, when your sales are rising for many months sometimes it makes you feel more comfortable and stop making new products or learning new things. When that happens it will hurt your sales because this is a very competitive market.
If you stop learning then there are so many people around the world who will come up with great new products.
Is there anything else you would like to say?
In the last 2 years, my life has completely changed. I always think I am very lucky to have joined this great community as well as great Marketplace at the right time. I would like to say “Thank you very much” to Collis and everyone in the Envato team for creating this great opportunity for everyone. Wherever you live there is an opportunity to succeed in the Envato Marketplaces.
A huge thank you from all of us at Envato, Pete. We appreciate you sharing your story and reminding us of what can be achieved with a little hard work!
Once again, Congratulations and Happy Peerapong Day!
