“I strongly believe that all things will be produced in superior quality, and with greater ease, when each man works at a single occupation, in accordance with his natural gifts, and at the right moment, without meddling with anything else.” This week we meet Dragan Filov (DPremium) from AudioJungle and GraphicRiver.
If you’re an Envato marketplace author and would like to be interviewed for the blog, head over to this form. We’d love to hear from you.
Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from, what do you do for a living?
My name is Dragan Filov. I come from Macedonia, and I am a 25 year old music and nature enthusiast. The reason am describing myself with these words is the fact that since I was a kid I dedicated myself to music, playing some instruments, singing at our famous child music festivals and winning some awards, and little later because of my passion for nature I studied Computer Geology. So nowadays I combine my love for music, nature and computers by making music and doing trance mixes every month under the name A Night With Premium.
Which marketplaces do you belong to? What types of files do you sell?
I mainly belong to AudioJungle, and GraphicRiver too. I mostly sell music , logos and idents, and some sound effects here on AudioJungle, and also business cards, templates and backgrounds on GraphicRiver.
I strongly believe that all things will be produced in superior quality, and with greater ease, when each man works at a single occupation, in accordance with his natural gifts, and at the right moment, without meddling with anything else. I really prefer quality!
How did you get started? Have you had any formal training?
My beginnings were at an early age when I was visiting lower music school, doing some experimental work with music and honing myself with a lot of practice. During the years I’ve dedicated myself much more seriously on making music.
With the wish to “feed” my creativity I found GraphicRiver. When I met GraphicRiver I started to understand more about graphic design, and after some tutorials I started to do my own stuff.
Describe your home workspace.
My home workplace is quite simple because I believe it is always the simple things that give us peace of mind and creative thoughts. I have my computer and I’ve got everything that I need on it.
I prefer good speakers – that is very important to me. As Plato said, “Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue.” Every time I sell something I invest the money to upgrade my computer equipment.
Describe your creative process. What steps do you normally follow to create your files?
I like to walk in nature and listen to classical music on my player, and usually there I come up with ideas that I often write down on my mobile phone. Also, people give me ideas with their dissatisfaction from something they saw or bought, so while they are talking I make ideas or opportunities in my mind for something much more evocative for their eyes.
And after making it all together in my head I take the next step, which should be much easier – sitting down on my PC and make the final product.
What is your advice to other authors regarding how to create a successful portfolio?
Although, there are a lot of steps to a successful portfolio, I think I haven’t accomplished many of them yet. But it is normal to have much higher expectations first from yourself and then from the costumers to buy your products.
- Find your motivation to create!
- Get with the ideas from the point of view what people would like to see, to hear, to have!
- Do not copy other ideas or design. You can not sell something that way!
- Use social networks to promote yourself!
- Use proper keywords for your files – so people can find you!
- And the most important – stay persistent!
What do you do to market your files?
I do the typical network presentation – using the social networks and music forums by uploading and presenting my collections and tracks.
What are your three favorite files, and why do you like them? (Please provide URLs)
I’m particularly pleased with:
I like this one because it’s something new for me. I usually make other styles of music.
I love hip-hop and this one is my favorite beat I have ever done.
I enjoy the calmness in this track.
Apart from yourself, who is your favorite marketplace author, and why do you like them?
I like the work of FHR STUDIO. I think his files are the benchmark for good quality and innovation.
What do you do in your spare time?
I enjoy little simple things that make me happy together with my girlfriend.
